Lem Echo Music simulates a vintage tape delay with three virtual playheads
If you long for the distant echoes of the magnetic tape era, developer Martinic has something dreamy to cure your cravings. The Lem Echo Music plug-in simulates a vintage Italian tape delay effect made by Lem, a company I hadn’t heard of before.
Lem Echo Music
This plug-in recreates the sound of three playheads onto a single strip of tape, complete with the wow, flutter and audio degradation you’d expect from the medium. The three playheads run at 80ms, 210ms and 330ms to allow 7 delay combinations and a total tape loop length of 9.5 seconds. The unit is complete with bass and treble controls for the two audio channels, and you can freely mix between them by using the faders. There’s also a VU meter for that unmistakeable vintage vibe.
Being a digital simulation, the Lem Echo Music plug-in also gets a tape age control, a reverb module, and pan controls for the Stereo mode. It all comes together in a nicely thick-sounding unit that lends itself to experimental use. While you are at it, definitely give the Pulsar EchoRec plug-in a try. It simulates the Binson Echorec unit famously used by David Gilmour in the 60s.
Price and availability
Lem Echo Music is on sale for EUR 17.50, down from a regular EUR 35. That’s very affordable already, and then you get 24% off the Elka Panther plug-in which smulates an Italian electric organ from the 60s. The coupon can be redeemed at any time. You can also grab free trial versions of both plug-ins to test before you buy.
