NAMM 2020: D’Angelico Guitars announce Deluxe Bedford SH semi-hollow offset guitar
The new D’Angelico Guitars Deluxe Bedford SH is a sweet looking semi-hollow offset model, which will be debuting at Winter NAMM. It comes with retro inspired looks and bags of great tones.
D’Angelico Guitars Deluxe Bedford SH
The Deluxe Bedford SH is a semi-hollow version of the company’s flagship Bedford model and in my opinion, the new design suits it really well. It comes factory-fitted with a set of Seymour Duncan Five-Two pickups in the neck and middle positions, plus a Seymour Duncan SM-1b mini-humbucker in the bridge, all wired up via the 5-way blade switch. The demo video below shows how this combination provides you plenty of great guitar tones.
Smooth Ride
The semi-hollow offset body is made form basswood and should have a nice acoustic ring to it, to help accentuate the guitar’s voice. The bridge is a tried-and-tested Tune-o-matic and stoptail configuration in nickel. There is also a trem version floating about somewhere, though there have been no official details on that version just yet.
The neck is a 3-piece maple/walnut/maple affair with a C shape profile, which should be pretty comfortable and familiar to most players. Personally though, I would have preferred a little more meat myself. It has an ebony fingerboard, with a 14-inch radius and medium jumbo Jescar fret-wire. This means smooth playability, low action and bends that won’t choke out. Fancy Mother of Pearl inlays adorn the fretboard.
The guitar will be available in a Trans Wine finish as standard. However, there is a run of Limited Edition finishes that come in Matte Black, Matte Wine and Matte Rose Gold. There will be only 50 of each these Limited Edition finishes worldwide.
The models are built in Korea. This is a pretty common thing for companies to do now so I can see no issues here, as long as quality control is maintained. The recommended retail price is a little high, but I imagine the street price will be a little sweeter.
If you like the looks and style, then this is certainly a guitar to consider in 2020. You can go check them out at D’Angelico Guitars’ NAMM Booth 212AB.
