NAMM 2020: SC3070, a compact 3-way monitor by EVE Audio
Three days before NAMM 2020 is set to begin, Berlin audio equipment manufacturer EVE Audio announced a new addition to its studio monitor line-up.
The SC3070 is a 3-way monitor suitable for both mid-field and near-field listening. The design includes a 7-inch bass driver with glass-fiber coated diaphragm, 4-inch midrange fiberglass driver with a honeycomb membrane, and EVE’s proprietary RS3 AIR Motion Transformer for the high frequencies. Each driver has a dedicated Class-D amplifier – 2 x 100W for the mids and lows, and 1 x 50W for the highs. The AMT also has detachable grilles.
A front panel control knob with LED ring lets the user adjust volume and Room EQ settings (low shelf, mid EQ, high shelf) to setup the monitor for use in their room. Furthermore, the LEDs’ brightness can be user-adjusted so they don’t become a distraction.

The front panel is beveled and said to be “ultra-stiff” as to reduce resonance and diffraction. The sparse, but functional rear panel includes a balanced XLR input, an RCA input, and three DIP-switches that let you fix specific adjustments in place, preventing unintended or unauthorized changes.
Under the proverbial hood, a 24/192kHz DSP engine with well-regarded Burr Brown AD/DA converters handles digital filters and overload protection.
All in all, if the conditions ask for 3-way monitoring in a smaller than usual footprint, the SC3070 ought to be a sensible choice for both project and professional studios. The price or release date have not been announced yet, though.
