Dr. No Effects Motherbrain Analog Delay for the more cerebral atmospheric moments
Dr. No Effects hand-builds high-end boutique effects. The new limited edition Motherbrain Analog Delay is packed with little touches and embellishments that really make it stand out in the delay-crowd visually – and hopefully sonically as well.
The first thing that grabs your attention are the three knobs that are shaped just like miniature brains. They are labelled Present – for controlling the signal path’s dry/wet mix and allowing you to dial in more or less of the effect with your dry signal, Insanity – controlling the desired delay time and finally Memory – for dialling in your feedback to either ‘short term’ or ‘long term’ .
Plenty of cerebrum jokes here, with graphics and packaging all backing up the running joke. Dr. No Effects even include a brain keyring and stickers with the pedal. So the whole package looks great.
Each pedal is silk-screened and hand-built. Being a boutique company, they have limited the pedal run to 350 pedals worldwide. So you may have to take a leap of faith when ordering one, as chances are it’ll be hard to try one out in the flesh.
Details on the actual internals aren’t available yet, so you’d really need to buy blind with this sort of unit. “Runs from a 9v battery” is all the technical specification that I could find!
Dr. No Effects do have a good reputation and many known artists use their products. My concern is, that it would have been nice if the company would have provided a little MORE information about the design and components used for this pedal. They just seem to be more concerned with the looks on this one. I cannot find any real information on their website or any audio demos on the web about the actual delay. So the Motherbrain is one I would probably, well, forget about myself.
