NAMM 2020: Ernie Ball Music Man Sabre
The new Ernie Ball Music Man Sabre model is coming out just in time for the Winter NAMM Show this week. It appeared on the official company blog earlier today, but details are still limited.
Ernie Ball Music Man Sabre
The new Ernie Ball Music Man Sabre is essentially a reissue of one of the company’s classic models from the 80s. This updated version has an okoume body with a carved maple top. The nicely book-matched premium top comes with natural binding, which really makes the grain in the figured maple wood pop.
The neck is made out of roasted figured maple. The width at the nut is 1 11/16″, making this a slightly wider than standard neck. This will make chording easier, I suspect.
Each Sabre comes equipped with a set of custom Ernie Ball Music Man humbucking pickups wired via a a 5-way switch.

Hardware
The guitar features a set of Schaller locking tuners and Ernie Ball Music Man’s super smooth modern tremolo system. I really like their trem systems. If you enjoy a good wobble and a touch of dive bomb, you can’t go wrong with an Ernie Ball trem.
The new Ernie Ball Music Man Sabre comes in Cobra, Boujee Burst, Honey Suckle and Blue Moonstone finish options. This model is not yet listed on their main site, but hopefully we will have more details about the new Sabre once things calm down post Winter NAMM. I can see it being pretty popular if priced reasonably.
I’d also love to see some nice high-resolution pictures of the guitar, since the ones from the blog aren’t great.
