NAMM 2020: Barefoot Sound intros the Footprint02 active monitors
Barefoot Sound has announced the Footprint02 3-way active monitor speakers. A smaller sibling of the Footprint01, the Footprint02 shares much of the same technology in a smaller, more affordable package, the company says.
Barefoot Sound Footprint02
According to Barefoot, the Footprint02 is designed to offer the same audio quality and imaging characteristics as the larger Footprint01, at about 60 percent of the cabinet volume. Much of its technology comes from its bigger sibling: opposing, side-mounted paper-cone woofers, a dual ring radiator tweeter and Barefoot’s ‘Multi-Emphasis Monitor Emulation’ MEME technology. According to Barefoot, MEME offers emulations of various other speaker models, including mix cubes and consumer hi-fi speakers. The idea is to be able to reference other speakers without actually switching monitors.
Barefoot claims that the rounded corners and edges of the Footprint02 cabinet reduces cabinet diffraction. Like the Footprint01, the Footprint02 features a dual ring radiator tweeter below the aluminium cone midrange driver. The company says that this configuration results in an acoustic focal point at the center of the cabinet.
Dual amplifier modules
The Footprint02 is powered by dual Class-D amplifier modules, which provide 200 watts for the low frequencies and 150 watts for the highs. The crossover frequencies of the 3-way design are 180 Hz and 3.6 kHz. The 1″ tweeter and 4″ midrange driver are supplemented by dual 6.5″ paper cone woofers. Barefoot states a frequency response of 42 Hz to 45 kHz at ±3 db and 52 Hz to 40 kHz at ±1 dB.
At the back, the Footprint02 has a balanced XLR input with an impedance of 50 kΩ. It is accompanied by a stepped attenuator.
Price and availability
While we don’t know yet when the Footprint02 will be available, Barefoot has announced the price. The speakers will be priced at USD 2,750 per pair – about 1,000 dollars less than the Footprint01.
