NAMM 2020: Fender hand-wired ’64 Custom Princeton Reverb
Fender introduces the new hand-wired ’64 Custom Princeton Reverb amp at Winter NAMM 2020.
’64 Custom Princeton Reverb
The latest offering from Fender’s amp department, the new ’64 Custom Princeton Reverb is a hand-wired model from their Corona, California facility. This re-issue model is packed with period-correct components like the Fender Vintage Blue tone capacitors and is fitted with a 10” Jensen alnico P10-R speaker.
AA1164
The amp uses an AA1164 circuit with a tube-driven spring reverb and tremolo. It runs three 12AX7s and one 12AT7 in the preamp section, a pair of matched 6V6 power tubes and uses a 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier tube.

Vintage Tone
It’s a solid, well built combo with 12-watts of power, so you don’t have to alert the whole neighbourhood to get to that sweet spot when you crank it.
Making a faithful recreation of an early ’60s classic amp isn’t cheap. However, I imagine it will be a lot cheaper to maintain this one, compared to an old original. If you want vintage tone and don’t want to lug around a vintage example that could get damaged, then this is possibly the way to go.
Personally, I cannot wait to try one in person, as I reckon it will sound glorious. Take a listen to the official demo video below to hear one in action.
RRP – USD 2299.99
