NAMM 2020: New products from Laney – LFR-212, MiniStacks and Spiral Array multi-chorus
Laney offers a little something of everything at this year’s NAMM, with new active LFR boxes, MiniStacks practice amplifiers and an enchanting new Black Country Customs Spiral Array chorus pedal.
Laney LFR-212
The LFR-212 is Laney’s latest platform for digital modelling, delivering 800 watts of power. This should be more than enough for any gig. It comes loaded with two full-range flat response 12-inch drivers, plus a 1-inch LaVoce horn. On the back is an XLR/jack combo input, a 3.5 mm aux input, link-out, a switchable Cab-Sim, an XLR-DI output and an HF trim controller.

Mini Stacks
The new MiniStacks practice amplifiers are miniaturised versions of full sized half-stacks, with four 3-inch speakers in the mini-cabinet, and are rated at 6 watts. The amps take design cues from the larger Lionheart and Ironheart amplifiers.
You get two channels with gain, tone and volume controls, as well as a handy built-in delay. There is also a Bluetooth interface, an auxiliary input, headphone output and Laney’s in-house LSI interface that connects with your smartphone to let you use modelling apps.

Black Country Customs Spiral Array
Laney’s Black Country Customs Spiral Array takes three classic chorus pedals: the Boss CE1 from 1976, Roland Dimension D from 1979 and the Dytronics Tri Stereo Chorus from 1985; and puts them in a single housing.
Classic Chorus with expression
Switching is easy with a mini toggle, the circuit is buffered and there is an expression pedal input. The pedal has yet to prove whether it sounds like its legendary role models. The concept looks very good on paper though and I look forward to hearing some demos soon.
