NAMM 2020: Tracktion announce Waveform 11 and more RetroMod, Waverazer and Biotek 2
Tracktion Corporation has set out its plan for 2020 which includes a huge update to Waveform, more RetroMod synths, updates to Waverazer and Biotek 2. Oh, and there’ll be a new full-featured and unrestricted free DAW for everyone to use.
Waveform 11
Waveform is awesome and the evolution of it as a DAW has been really interesting to follow since it renamed itself and became a contender. All the information we have so far comes from the promotional video but version 11 is looking amazing.
In the Arrangement window you can now do the whole chorus/verse structuring in the Arranger Track and force both MIDI and audio to follow chord arrangements and changes. There’s something called The Action Window and Action Bar which looks like some kind of macro system that focuses tools and views you need into a separate window, perhaps for another screen. Talking of which there’s been a lot of optimisation for multiple screens and touch-screens as well. There’s a bunch of new MIDI tools including a Chord Companion, Arpeggiator, Note Repeater and MIDI monitor. There are 122 new “Artisan” audio plugins and a new FM synthesizer.
Whenever a new version of Waveform comes out Tracktion releases a previous version for free. That will be Waveform version 8 which is a seriously good DAW and the beginning of the new look and workflow that makes Waveform such an engaging place to make music.
Instrument updates
RetroMod, their sample-based vintage instrument range gets the new Digital 1 and Lo-Freq Wired instruments. Waverazor gets an update with 4 new filter types and lots of new presets. Biotek 2 gets a load more content as well.
This looks like a solid bunch of updates with Waveform 11 taking centre stage.
