NAMM 2020: Gretsch Limited Edition Penguin
Gretsch has announced a super cool, ’50s vibe, silver-sparkling Limited Edition Penguin model for 2020. The new Bigsby loaded model looks stunning and will be one rare bird.
Cool as ice
Take a few minutes and let your eyes indulge in this amazing, understated and yet totally over-the-top Two-Tone Smoke Gray/Metallic Violet finish. It simply exudes cool. And with that Bigbsy and two TV Jones TV Classic pickups, you know it will twang in style. Or growl if you prefer.
Cool as f***
The guitar has a set maple neck with a 12” radius ebony fingerboard and 22 medium jumbo frets. It comes with an arched rocking bar bridge with a pinned ebony base and a Bigsby B3C tailpiece. The matching headstock has a bone nut and a set of Grover Imperial tuning machines. If set up correctly and maintained, this guitar should provide perfect tuning stability.
Arch Top
The Penguin has a chambered mahogany body with an arched maple top. I reckon it will sound ace drenched in tube reverb and a touch of tremolo, especially at high volumes. I’d just want to do bad things with this guitar.
The Gretsch Professional Collection is all built to a very high standard in Japan.
All I need to do now is find three grand, and that’s me sorted for the year.
