Gretsch Electromatic range launched for Summer NAMM 2016
Gretsch have just announced a new Electromatic lineup with five new guitars featuring some nice ‘player’ upgrades, all in time for the Summer NAMM 2016 Show.
All five new models have seen some hardware upgrades including a GraphTech NuBone nut, a treble bleed circuit on the tone control and Black Top Filtertron pickups. They have also added some really nice new colours to the range. Pricing seems very competitive and to me it looks to be a really nice re-launch of the Gretsch Electromatic range. At last.
The company has worked hard to bring the Gretsch name back recently and earlier this year relaunched a whole series of budget guitars with the Streamliner range. These latest models are very keenly priced as well, and actually includes some left-handed models as well as a 12-string model.
Gretsch G5422TG Electromatic Hollow Body Double-Cut with Bigsby and Gold Hardware
With a beautiful, classic look, the Gretsch the G5422TG should prove very popular. Also available in a Walnut finish. RRP GBP £809.
Gretsch G5420LH Electromatic Hollow Body Single-Cut Left-Handed
At last: A good quality, left-handed semi-hollow guitar at a reasonable price. Again, I love that Gretsch have not shunned all my south paw player friends out there. It’s also a great-looking instrument. No Bigsby on this model, however. RRP £749
Gretsch G5420T Electromatic Hollow Body Single-Cut with Bigsby
This G5420T is one very sweet-looking guitar, especially in this Fairlane Blue. Also available in Aspen Green and Orange Stain. RRP £709
Gretsch G5422T Electromatic Hollow Body Double-Cut with Bigsby
The G5422T is a thinner-bodied guitar, and the double-cut away will be great for layers that like to get up to the dusty end of the neck. Also available in Orange Stain. RRP £749
Gretsch G5422G-12 Electromatic Hollow Body Double-Cut 12-String with Gold Hardware
This 12-string version is aimed at all the jangle chord merchants, and is also very keenly priced for such a good looking guitar, though it is the most expensive of all the new models. Also available in Black. RRP £929
It’s lovely to see Gretsch releasing so many good-looking guitars, all under that £1000 mark. I am particularly pleased to see a left-handed model (albeit without a Bigsby, which is a shame) and a well-priced 12-string version in the range as well.
I hope to see lots of players using these at gigs and recording sessions this year. The Filtertron pickups and all the little extras like a decent nut and treble bleed show that they are listening to what players actually want from a quality instrument. Also, the new bold colours look really good on those classic semi-hollow bodies.
