D16 Syntorus 2: the BBD chorus plug-in gets a big upgrade
D16 Group is about to release Syntorus 2, an updated version of its analogue BBD chorus plug-in. Among other improvements, Syntorus 2 adds a third delay/chorus line, three configurable LFOs and multi-mode filters. The first edition of Syntorus already sounded very good, so this one looks like a keeper.
D16 Syntorus 2
Syntorus 2 is a big upgrade. Like the first edition, it’s inspired by the chorus effects of classic synthesizers like the Solina String Ensemble, Elka Synthex and Roland Juno-106. But D16 says that it sounds good on any acoustic or electric instrument, and they’ve added a whole bunch of new features.
The most prominent addition is a third delay/chorus line. You can still choose from normal and BBD modes for the delay lines. In contrast to the predecessor, Syntorus 2 offers a new delay line mixer, which lets you adjust the volume and panning of each delay line. Each line now also has its own multi-mode filter and tremolo effect, which are modulated by the same LFO as the delay time.
Speaking of LFOs, Syntorus 2 offers three of them (with six waveforms each), which can be assigned to the delay lines in three routing configurations. The LFOs have independent phase shifting for the left and right channels and offer amplitude controls with an invert option.
Syntorus 2 also features a new tag-based preset browser, three GUI scaling settings and a comprehensive MIDI learn function.
Price and compatibility
D16 Syntorus 2 isn’t out yet, but the company says that it’s coming soon. Looking at the company’s other plug-ins like Redoptor 2, Tekturon and Decimort 2, I think we can expect a price of around 50 to 70 Euros. The plug-in will be available for Windows 7 or newer and macOS 10.7 to 10.14. It comes in AU, VST and AAX formats (32/64 bit).
