Fender Japan Modern Jazzmaster: A limited edition hot-rodded offset!
The Fender Japan Modern Jazzmaster was an eye-catching model that was only available in Japan. Now the Modern Jazzmaster is available in a limited edition with a 3-Color Sunburst and a black-finished headstock.
Fender Japan Modern Jazzmaster
Launched last year as a Japan-only model, this modern take on the classic American offset guitar certainly turned heads. Now Fender is making it available as a limited 3-Color Sunburst run. The Modern Jazzmaster has a a three-piece alder body, with direct-mount 4th generation Fender noiseless humbuckers. It uses a Tune-o-matic bridge instead of a traditional Jazzmaster vibrato system. It also sports locking tuners.
Modern Neck spec
Then there’s the neck: a thoroughly modern compound modern C-to-D neck shape. The rosewood fingerboard has a compound-radius and is loaded with 22 frets and a set of glow-in-the-dark side dots, There’s a contoured neck heel for better upper fret access. As there is no pickguard, it looks very different to a traditional Jazzmaster, but aesthetically I think it works. The stunning Sunburst finish frames the edge of the guitar nicely.
Hot Stuff!
One too look out for in 2020? I reckon it could well be, but you may need to import one from Japan. Here in the UK, Japanese Fender models turn up quite frequently, but I know that isn’t always the case elsewhere in the world.
This design reminds me a little of the Jim Root signature model – and that guitar is a beast! I can see this model being popular among players looking for a modern offset design.
RRP – YEN 153000 (at the time of writing around EUR 1260)

“Noiseless humbuckers” I’d certainly hope so… Anyway, model looks great. Fender Japan is probably the best bang for your buck, imo.
