Covid-19: Avid gives away free licenses for Pro Tools, Sibelius and more…
Avid announced today that it will be offering free Avid licenses for the creative tools suite, including industry-standard packages such as Pro Tools, Media Composer and Sibelius. Free production software for all? Well, yes and no…
Free Avid Licenses
Yes, it’s true! Free Avid licenses are available for the following software: Media Composer | Ultimate, Pro Tools, Pro Tools | Ultimate, and Sibelius | Ultimate. Before you all run over to the Avid website and crash their servers, we should point out there are restrictions on who Avid will provide licenses to. Furthermore, these are temporary licenses valid for 90 days only.
Avid has stated: “…to assist our community in adjusting their workflows to accommodate COVID-19 virus precautions, Avid will make a limited number of temporary licenses…available to qualified media enterprise and educational institutions at no charge”.
Terms and Conditions Apply
We’ll put this simply: if you don’t already have a license for Avid software, or don’t work in a professional or educational capacity with one, you’re not getting any free software! With that said, this is a very generous offer from Avid, designed to keep people working from home. If you’re a studio professional with tracks to edit at home, then you’ll be able to get a license.
Furthermore, students in education who use Avid software will be able to continue studying from home with a temporary license. In light of the current social climate, it’s a great move from Avid and will keep professionals in work. Additionally, students forced with school and university closures can continue their studies at home. Bravo Avid!
