Erica Synths rolls out the tubes for the Fusion VCA2: VCA-Waveshaper-Ringmod
Amongst the new Fusion modules is an unassuming sequel to their VCA but this time it has twice the tubes, waveshaping and they’ve assimilated the Ring Modulator.
VCA-Waveshaper-Ringmod
Also known as the Fusion VCA 2 this is a complex modulation source that while it can certainly be a regular VCA all the fun lies in the modulation side.
With the mode switch turned to “Direct” you have a lovely and warm dual-channel valve VCA with a delicious amount of Drive feeding the mixed output. Switch it to BIASED and the two BIAS knobs come into play adjusting different grid voltages of the tubes defining the characteristics of the VCA through waveshaping and reverse responses. The CV inputs controls the positioning on the grid voltages which is very different from normal VCA behaviour and gives access to a much wider range of tones.
Beneath the BIAS knobs is a cross-fader to adjust the mix of the two audio inputs.
The Ring Modulation section takes two inputs for that classic Ringmod effect. If different waveforms from the same VCO are patching to the two inputs then it acts as a waveshaper. And if nothing is plugged into the Ring Mod inputs then it borrows the audio from the regular inputs so there’s always something being modulated at the Ring Mod output.
Suffice to say that the pushing of signals around this module will result in some fat and modulated tones.
The Erica Synths Fusion VCA2 will be available in June.
