From 1979 comes Modal Synthesis Voice, a DSP-driven physical modelling modular voice in 4U Buchla format based on the Mutable Elements.

Elements

Elements is an entire synthesizer in a module which uses physical modelling to generate natural and unnatural sounds. It uses three methods of excitation; striking, bowing and blowing, to generate the sounds which are then processed through a modal filter bank of 64 bandpass filters which simulate various resonant structures. You can feed external audio signals into the filter section as well if you wish. At the end is a bit of reverb to add some space.

It’s a highly regarded digital module in Eurorack and 1979 has taken into the blue-tinted world of Buchla.

Modal Synthesis Voice

1979 follow the format of Elements very closely, adjusting the layout and fitting it into a more Buchla workflow. It looks huge in 4U with those very fingerable blue knobs. In the demo video (below) it doesn’t sound like anything you’d expect it to which aptly demonstrates the wide range of timbres this could bring to your modular. The large amount of patch sockets for modulation is where the creativity lies.

The Modal Synthesis Voice is available now for $750.
