Fender releases the Jim Root Jazzmaster V4 – with new signature EMG pickups!
The Slipknot guitarist’s signature axe gets some serious upgrades! The Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster V4 model comes loaded with all new active EMG Jim Root pickups and is the first of his signature instruments not to come in a matt black finish. This new one is white and has big block inlays!
Jim Root Jazzmaster V4
The Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster V4 was officially announcement during NAMM 2020 and I actually leaked it (with the help of EMG) before that. So it isn’t much of a surprise to see this new model finally being released today.
This latest Jim Root signature guitar looks significantly different from his last three Fender models. The neck binding with pearloid block inlays is in stark contrast to the previous plain ebony models with no fret markers at all. And it comes in a Polar White satin finish!
“The Jazzmaster V4 is kind of like an evolution. . . . It is so well balanced and feels so good to play on stage. It is all I want to play right now. It’s all about attitude—taking [a guitar] and making it your own. So much attitude can come from a vibe or a feeling or a notion – that vibe with this instrument is what got me to love guitars.” – Jim Root
Even though the V4 looks different, it should still feel and play as well as his previous models. The 12” radius ebony fingerboard and 22 jumbo frets should still deliver a sleek playing experience. The mahogany body has a contoured heel, and the single volume knob and three-way pickup selector allow you to get your tones quickly and without fuss. No messing about with this guitar at all, which is great. I’ve played the previous all-black version and it’s a pretty awesome instrument. It has a great feel and can cover a lot of styles, not just down-tuned metal riffs.
Signature EMGs
This new model for 2020 features new signature EMG Jim Root Daemonum open-coil active humbucking pickups, which are unique to this model. The pickups are inspired by a set of modified Retro Active pickups, tailored to the guitarist’s tone. Previous Jim Root models used a different set entirely, so this should provide new and improved sonic territories.
All in all, I quite like this new version. It’s a pleasant change to see a Jim Root signature model in something other than just all black!
