Akai MPC 2.8 firmware update features MIDI Multi Capability
What’s MIDI Multi Capability? You can now connect a USB hub to your MPC machine and it can address and control up to 32 USB/MIDI devices and become the central MIDI hub of your workflow.
MPC 2.8
It’s the sort of thing that deserves an entire whole number increment. I mean what are they holding back for version 3? This update is for the MPC X, MPC One and MPC Live. They all have USB inputs on the back and with the new update they can understand any class-compliant keyboard, synth or device that gets plugged into it. Add a USB hub and you can expand that up to 32 devices.
The idea is that you can use the sequencing and controlling power of the MPC engine to run everything else so you’re no longer having to drop between workflows to access other parts of your studio. It’s also great for simply syncing up other drum machines and sequencers to a single place.
The MPC can also route the devices between each other so you can use a controller keyboard to reach a different sound module via the MPC. That’s very cool.
Other updates include the ability to send MIDI from one track to another effectively controlling multiple devices from a single track. There’s also a Chord mode where you can fire individual chords with just one pad. They’ve also added that most favourite of features “Retrospective Record” where you can hit Shift-Record and everything you were previously fiddling with when not recording is instantly remembered.
Akai has created a detailed video on all the new features which you’ll find below.
The update will be available for the MPC X, MPC One and MPC Live from the 14th May.
