Clearmountain’s Spaces: USD 49 reverb plug-in from Apogee
Apogee Digital has released a new reverb plug-in called Clearmountain’s Spaces. Another collaboration between the manufacturer and legendary producer Bob Clearmountain, this plug-in presents a more condensed approach to his signature use of reverb.
Clearmountain’s Spaces
Available on macOS and Windows 10, the new reverb plug-in features recreations of three custom reverb chambers used by the producer. The spaces are Apogee Studio (an in-house recording studio and development center), Mix This! (captured from the physical echo chambers at Clearmountain’s Los Angeles studio) and Roscoe (a rich, long reverb captured at a friend of Bob’s).
Out of these, a fair number of presets are derived by Bob Clearmountain himself, with nine of them demonstrated in YouTube videos on the plug-in’s product page.
The input signal can be shaped with a 3-band EQ and de-esser before it hits the reverb. A composite spaces mixer is available, letting you blend between the three reverb chambers and various decay times. A Pre-Delay control can separate the dry signal from the reverbated signal for greater clarity, while a real-time Spaces Visualizer provides eye candy and an informative look at how the virtual reverb evolves through time and space.
The resizable interface is typical Apogee, with the layout nicely separated in graphically outlined sections. It makes for a great starter reverb, as the GUI is super easy to get around. So is blending between the three reverbs, which is accomplished via regular faders that let you dial in how much reverbation you want from each space.
Price and availability
Clearmountain’s Spaces costs an affordable USD 49 and demo versions are available for Windows and macOS. The plug-in comes bundled with Apogee’s Symphony Desktop audio interface as well.
