Initial Audio Dynamic Delay is a new stereo delay plug-in with an integrated ducker. Dynamic Delay makes it easy to control the delay level depending on the level of the input signal, without the need for an external sidechain compressor. Sounds like a convenient time saver!
Initial Audio Dynamic Delay
Ducking a delay using a sidechain compressor is a popular technique. Lowering the delay level when the input signal is high can help to clean up the mix. It also helps the delay to really stand out when the input signal is lower. In the new Dynamic Delay by Initial Audio, the compressor / ducker is integrated into the delay plug-in, so you don’t need to set up a complex processing chain to accomplish this task.
Dynamic Delay is a stereo delay with independent times for the left and right channels, which can of course sync to the song tempo. You can also set the feedback independently for each channel. There are high and low cut filters and a damping control for shaping the sound. For more adventurous delays, the plug-in also offers detune, distortion and even a one-knob reverb derived from the company’s AR1 plug-in. So it’s already a pretty versatile delay in its own right, even without the ducking option.
The integrated sidechain compressor / ducker is located on the left, next to the input level meter. Set the threshold using the slider, and the volume of the delay is reduced when the input signal exceeds the threshold level. There’s also a release control, which allows you to set the time it takes for the delay level to come back up when the input signal falls below the threshold.
Dynamic Delay saves you the hassle of setting up an additional compressor plug-in in the delay bus and routing the source signal to its sidechain input. Very convenient indeed! I also really like the clean and uncluttered GUI of the plug-in.
Price and compatibility
Initial Audio Dynamic Delay is now available from the developer’s website for an introductory price of USD 29. The regular price will be USD 79.
The plug-in runs on Windows (VST, 64 bit) and macOS (VST, AU). A demo version is available.
