This new Gretsch G6136T-RR Rich Robinson Signature Falcon is a more affordable version of the custom shop relic model – and even without all that ageing it still has bags of character. This model proves – as if anyone was in any doubt – that the Black Crowes guitarist has a great taste in guitars.

Mr Rich Robinson’s new G6136T-RR model is a fully hollow body build and features the classic 1959 trestle bracing and spruce sound block construction. The top is made from solid spruce and features Gretsch F-holes; maple is used for the laminated back and sides. The neck has a lovely, dark 12”radius ebony fingerboard loaded with 22 medium jumbo frets and those subtle Gretsch mother of pearl Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays.

I think that the Raven’s Breast Blue gloss lacquer finish and nickel hardware look really smart, especially with those white accents and Silver Sparkle body binding. This guitar should age nicely and look better with time. Even the silver pickguard with magpie logo works well, for me.

Hardware

On the hardware side, this guitar gives you an Adjusto-Matic bridge with a pinned ebony base, then a string-through Bigsby B6CBRR trem system and a bone nut. Tuning should be stable when properly set up. I like these string-through versions, as you don’t have to fight trying to get the string ball ends onto the little pegs of the regular Bigsby trem. It makes restringing a lot easier.

TV Jones

The pickups consist of a TV Jones TV Classic bridge pickup and a Broad’Tron BT65 in the neck position. These are wired via a three-way position toggle switch through a master volume with treble bleed circuit, master Tone, neck Volume and bridge Volume control. This setup will reward you with lots of great tonal variations. I love those pickups and have used the TV Jones in a few of my own guitars.

Hard to Handle? No.

This new production version is around half the price of the custom shop aged version so I think it will sell well. It is certainly my favourite from all the new Gretsch releases that have been announced today. The original custom shop was limited to only 25 guitars worldwide, so it was almost impossible to get your hands on.

Then take into account that The Black Crowes are back together and hopefully touring once all this Covid-19 epidemic calms down – everyone’s a winner!

RRP – USD 3799.99 inc hard case
