The new Quilter Labs OverDrive 202 bucks the normal trend of guitar amps by being a no-nonsense solid-state, lightweight amp with bags of tone. No modelling, no tubes, and no fuss.

If you are a gigging musician that travels long distances, owning a well made 200-watt twin channel guitar amp would be a dream. Enter the OverDrive 202, a small but very flexible solid-state amp. A small switch provides you with three basic amp voices called linear, center-weighted, and scooped, and it has two footswitchable amp channels, ideal for live situations as you can toggle easily between them.
Both channels have independent gain controls, but only the CLEAN channel gets a dedicated 3-band EQ. However, if required, the clean channel can be overdriven and used as a lighter gain. The EQ can then be used to further sculpt the sound.
DSP
The GAIN channel has a built-in limiter which tames and compresses the overdrive sounds to taste. The master output controls how much power between 0-200 watts the amp is putting out, as well adjusting the breakup threshold of the clean channel. This much output should easily be loud enough for most small to medium sized venues.
The internal cabinet simulation DSP actively tracks output settings to offer useful speaker emulation when recording directly out. Other features include a built-in reverb, an effects loop, and a pre/post line output which doubles up as a headphone jack when needed.
The Perfect Travel amp?
The Overdrive 202 looks like a neat, lightweight amp solution for the musician on the go, and is priced fairly reasonably for what it is. The recent Thermion Zero is similar in concept, but with just a 40-watt dual output, it’s not nearly quite as powerful as the Overdrive 202.
