Reloop sPodcaster Go: EUR 60 USB mic for budget-friendly recordings
Are USB microphones becoming consumer products? Reloop’s EUR 60 sPodcaster Go podcast mic is a new alternative at the affordable end of the mic market, showing yet again that the USB condenser microphone is going the way of affordable tablets, drones, home karaoke mics and other gadgetry that may have been new and/or expensive once.

So what are eager podcasters getting for the princely sum of EUR 60? A stylish, lightweight aluminium desktop USB condenser mic with built-in 16-bit/48kHz audio conversion, 3.5mm headphone/speaker jack, and volume buttons. A plug-and-play bus-powered affair, the microphone has a cardioid polar pattern and offers an integrated stand along with the standard M-10 mounting thread.
Alas, we have nothing to judge audio quality with. I honestly wouldn’t worry how detailed the reproduction is. My concerns are more about eventual noise and hiss plaguing otherwise decent recordings. Let’s hope that’s not the case with this mic, for its price makes it an empowering product. And Reloop is a well-known DJ brand with a reputation at stake, so we can expect a quality product. Both novice podcasters and experienced ones on a budget now have another cheap mic to choose from that will no doubt do the job. Not to mention one can probably hum or strum a respectable vocal/instrument demo into it. Heck, you can buy the mic for its sheer portability (140 grams!) and rugged, no-frills design to use under challenging conditions – without worrying too much about protecting an investment.
Unless it turns out to be a lemon, I can see the sPodcaster Go appealing to many podcasters and singer-songwriters. Can this launch maybe a super-affordable condenser mic trend, too?
