Blackstar Debut 10E and 15E: Practise amps with echoes of the past
Two new compact practice amplifiers are rated at 10 and 15 Watts
Available as a 10- or 15-Watt model, Blackstar’s new Debut amps are designed for guitarists at the beginning of their musical careers needing a small practise amp. Both amps use the Blackstar ISF technology to make it easy to dial in a variety of sounds, always a welcome feature for beginners finding their feet in the world of amp tones. But while looking back at other practise Blackstar amps from a couple of years ago, we were struck by some similarities…
Blackstar Debut 10E and 15E
These two new practise amps are rated at 10 and 15 Watts respectively. One feature worth pointing out is the onboard ISF technology, that lets you morph between British and American amp tones. Both amps provide a built-in tape delay, clean and overdrive channels, plus a basic EQ.
Looking closely at the controls and I/O labelling of the new Debut range, we were strongly reminded of the LT Echo, a model from 2017 that also came in 10- and 15-Watt versions. Are these re-badged, re-styled versions of the same amplifier? Take a look and judge for yourself. The Debut series certainly has a more vintage aesthetic. The brown speaker grille, chicken head knobs and cream-coloured housing certainly look nicer on your bookshelf at home than the LT Echo.
For Beginners
These amps can also be used for stereo playback from your smartphone via the Line input so you can jam along to your favourite tracks. Plus, you also have a headphone with speaker emulation for when you want to practise without annoying others.
The pricing on both models is pretty reasonable. Apart from newcomers to electric guitar, these could also be appealing for more practised players as a second amp for your home office. Both amps are mains powered and can’t be run from batteries, unlike the Blackstar Fly range that we looked at recently in our roundup of Best Mini Amps.

Revamped LT-Echo vintage style.
