Eventide ShimmerVerb promises endless pitch-shifted reverbs
Eventide starts off each month with a new effect in its H9 series. Added to the collection is ShimmerVerb, a shimmer reverb algorithm borrowed from the H9 pedal. It combines an etheral-sounding reverb with parallel pitch shifters for a shimmering audio effect.

The shimmering effect finds its origins in big name producers using Eventide effects processors in combination with external reverbs. The Eventide unit (likely a H910, H949 or the venerable H3000) handles pitch-shifting and the reverb makes it shimmer. You can hear the technique in action on U2’s The Unforgettable Fire.
ShimmerVerb gets you that sound instantly, complete with controls and a playable ribbon controller. The plug-in adds ambience to anything you throw at it, including guitars, keyboards and vocals. Eventide has extended the algorithm with infinite feedback to achieve endless cascading reverbs. Said feedback can be fine-tuned by adjusting the frequencies with Low, Mid, and High knobs in addition to the Feedback amount.
As most H9-series plug-ins, ShimmerVerb too features a MIDI-playable ribbon controller. Mapped to the modulation wheel, the ribbon is capable of feedback swells, adjusting the pitch knobs, or changing reverb size resulting in a pronounced de-tune effect. There’s also a hotswitch which recalls a different set of parameters within the same preset. This way, you can change octaves, turn pitch shifters on and off, adjust the Mix knob during performance, and so on.
ShimmerVerb features a familiar set of controls – Mix, Decay, Size, A & B (for pitch shifters), the aforementioned feedback frequency controls, and a tempo sync adjuster. Finally, there’s the Freeze button which freezes the pitch-shifted reverb in time, providing for metallic-sounding effects.

ShimmerVerb is on sale for USD 39. The plug-in functions in 32 and 64-bit AAX, AU, VST2, VST3, and AUv3 formats for Windows, macOS and iOS. A 30-day demo is available from Eventide.
