Minimoog Model D returns to full production
Legendary analogue synthesizer back on the market after a 30-year hiatus
Back in May Moog talked about a limited run of hand-built Minimoog Model D synthesizers being made at Moog Fest. We all made a big fuss about it and how awesome it was even though they promised nothing in terms of making them available to regular punters. Today Moog Music have announced that they have gone into full production on the Minimoog Model D.
It’s 30 years since the Minimoog was last in production. It was the first portable synthesizer and set the tone and style for pretty much every synthesizer that followed. Well, maybe until the recent resurgence in the sort of modular systems the Minimoog was designed to replace.
Each Minimoog Model D is hand made in the employee-owned factory in Ashevill, North Carolina, USA. The original sound and audio engine of this 3-oscillator legend is securely housed in a hand-finished aluminium base, with a locally sourced Appalachian hardwood surround. The reissue contains some modifications from the original. These include a premium Fatar key-bed, with velocity and after-pressure; a dedicated analogue LFO with triangle and square shapes; CV outputs for pitch, gate, velocity and after-pressure and MIDI implementation. Rounding it off is a mixer overload function to further enhance the warmth when pushed to its limits. It all sounds a bit dreamy, really.
It’s available for pre-order now from any authorised Moog supplier and should cost £3249. Moog Music stress that they are only making a handful every month so if the Minimoog Model D is something you need then you need to get your cash down.
