Overloud Voice: An all-in-one vocal mixing chain for your DAW
Overloud Voice is a new all-in-one vocal mixing toolkit in a plug-in. With a complete set of preamps, tape simulation, enhancer, EQ, dynamics and more, Overloud Voice contains everything you need to get that vocal sound just right.
Overloud Voice
Voice is the newest plug-in in Overloud’s Gem series. As a complete vocal processing chain, it shares the basic concept with competitors like Harrison AVA Vocal Flow, DJ Swivel The Sauce, Audified ToneSpot Voice Pro and others. What you get is a series of modules specifically tuned and arranged for vocal processing, which makes it unnecessary to switch between different plug-ins while working on the vocal mix.
The signal reaches the preamp section first, which contains four different mic preamp emulations. The tape module offers three tape simulations (1/4”, 1/2” and 2”), as well as three additional modes for special effects (Flutter, Vocal Distortion and Fuzz). After that is an Enhancer module designed to add definition and brilliance to dull vocal sounds.
The next module is called Multiband and offers two specialized dynamics processors: De-Box and De-Esser. While the De-Esser tackles sibilance, De-Box works in the low-mid frequency range.
Different compressor and EQ models
The compressor module lets you choose from five different compressor emulations, including FET, Optical and Tube. There’s an LF Sensitivity knob, which allows you to dial in the optimal low-frequency response for male and female voices. The module also contains an expander/gate.
The equalizer module offers four different types of EQs, some of which are modeled after famous consoles: 4K, British, German and Proportional Q. The EQ has low, mid and high bands and an adjustable high pass filter.
Unlike a reverb, the Space module uses very short multilayer impulses to create a sense of dimension and placement in the mix, Overloud says. There’s also a simple delay module.
Everything comes together in the display and master sections, where you’ll find an analyzer / compressor graph, a limiter and an output level control.
Overloud Voice looks like a comprehensive toolkit for vocal mixing. There doesn’t seem to be a way to change the order of modules, which is a bit disappointing. But they’ve chosen a processing chain that makes sense for many applications and keeps things simple.
