Behringer PRO-800: clone of Prophet-600 now shipping!
The Behringer PRO-800 is now shipping and available to purchase! After a long wait, the Propher-600 clone is available to order with the first deliveries taking place in Spring 2023. Looking for an 8-voice analogue polysynth on a budget? Then look no further!
Update April 29th 2023: After a long and anticipated wait, the first Behringer PRO-800 synths are rolling off the production lines and available to order. According to Behringer, they’ve already taken a record-breaking number of pre-sales for this hugely anticipated clone of the Sequential Prophet-600.
Behringer’s target price was under $600, which would have been great value; at the time of writing the actual street price is under $450, which seems astonishing value for an 8-voice analogue poly synth!
Update 8th December 2022: Behringer has released a new video on the PRO-800 going into a lot more detail on their desktop 8-voice homage to the Prophet-600. The synth includes modifications from synth-designer GliGli to add a noise generator, a dedicated LFO and VCA overdrive. They’ve also squeezed in a 2-track polyphonic sequencer which is great to see, and also has room for 400 presets.
I think it sounds pretty great, and at $600, it’s well-priced for a polyphonic analogue synthesizer. Behringer said they were aiming for under $600, and they achieved that. Shipping should start in April but we’re not very sure if that’s when slow boats leave China or when the Pro-800 will be able to leave shops to reach customers. Some movement from Behringer is great to see. It’s been stuck without chips for far too long.

PRO-800
Original post from January 2021.
The Sequential Circuits Prophet-600 came after the Prophet-5 as a lower-cost alternative. It was simplified and improved in some areas. It was the first synthesizer to implement MIDI and could store up to 100 patches. But what Behringer is interested in is that unmistakable Prophet sound. They could have cloned the Prophet-5 and a lot of people have asked for that and it may still arrive but with the Prophet-600 they get a lot of synth into a little box. Behringer has been working with a synth designer called GliGli, who is known for his Prophet-600 modifications and expansions.
And so we have the PRO-800, which looks a lot like the PRO-1 but with a micro-controlled patch system over on the left. They’ve taken it to 8-voices polyphony with two VCOs per voice and presumably VCF’s and VCAs as well. The oscillators offer sawtooth, triangle and pulse waveforms with pulse width modulation. The filter and VCA gets their own ADSR envelope and we get a Noise generator and Glide control. You can use the Poly-Mod section for Ring-Modulation and pitch-sweeping effects using the filter envelope. We’ll have to wait and see what other improvements are being made to it. I’m not seeing a sequencer or arpeggiator that the original had, and I wonder whether you’ll be able to back-up patches to cassette?
Very little other information at the moment except that they are trying to get it under $600 and hope to ship in January, which now seems very unlikely but they hope it will arrive in the next few months.
See the top of this post for the latest updates.

“I’m not seeing a sequencer or arpeggiator which the original had”
It has the same “ARP UP-DN” and “SEQ 1” / “SEQ 2” buttons on the membrane panel as the original?
the arp and sequencer are there above the volume knob.
mind blown! Love the format, hope they keep bringing it with these little modules.
So much stuff from Behringer, that I’m never actually going to buy anything!!! By the time the thing is launched, they’ll have announced something else which will catch my attention instead…and so on !!
Can “ears” be attached to it so it can be mounted in a standard 19″ rack?
Yes, the same with other eurorack Beringer synth modules
Low quality reporting. You didn’t even look at the pic you used.
let’s just hope that the components that are used are upto it as its definitely one for the masses im in for sure
I’d hope for MPE midi control!
This looks like a “must buy” for every synth head, me included.
I owned the original Prophet 600 and sold because I didn’t like the sound .so I don’t gonna buy this . I want the VCS3
Ps I second the idea that adding some form of MPE support, that can be driven by either mod wheels or after touch, seems like the obvious way to have added value apart from the price, and bring it into the post millennial landscape….
I think it sound better then the modern sequential/dave smith gear. Good they make a module from it with extra ins. I like the sequential looks. 😃
At that price point I’m going to pick one up. I have an OB-6 table top that I hardly use and want to do some comparisons.
Ordered yesterday, nobrainer! Unfortainly I sold my 600 in 2001, and regret. But everything will be for good again! Thank you Ulrich!!
Nothing is currently shipping, your headline is a lie.
With Behringer it means shipping from factory in China on a literal ship – may take weeks to arrive on this side of the planet.
