Erica Synths Black Quad VCA 2: An update on a classic
You can never have enough VCAs and the Quad VCA has become a classic route to the control of CV and audio. Erica Synths updates the Black Quad VCA 2 to make it more versatile.
Black Quad VCA 2
It’s not the most exciting module in the world but a 4-channel VCA is enormously useful to have in your rack. This updated version of the Black Quad VCA fills the same space as the original while offering a bit more nuance and versatility.
The Quad VCA 2 is a 4-channel voltage-controlled mixer and amplifier. The most noticeable change is the arrival of a switch for each channel to toggle between a linear or logarithmic response. All outputs are mixed down the chain unless they have their output individually patched. So if you just patch Output 4 then it acts as a 4 channel mixer. The CV is also normalled down the chain so if you have CV patched only to the first channel it will control the other channels as well. Channel 4 is DC Coupled and so can be used for controlling CV sources.
Erica Synths has added LEDs above each knob to show the signal level. The custom pre-emphasis – de-emphasis circuits keep the source signal as pure and natural as possible while giving you room to crank the knobs into +3dB of amplification.
These things are always useful and Erica Synths has made the right adjustments to ensure that their Black Quad VCA 2 makes it onto your shortlist.
The Black Quad VCA 2 is available now for €200.
