0-Coast tabletop patchable synth now shipping from Make Noise
We first saw this little beauty at the beginning of the year at the NAMM show in Anaheim. Make Noise have announced that the 0-Coast is shipping now so if you’ve pre-ordered you can expect something fabulous about to arrive on your doorstep.
Not East coast or West coast but 0-Coast
The 0-Coast mixes techniques from both the Moog (East Coast) and Buchla (West Coast) blends of synthesis but doesn’t favour either and so considers itself implementing “no coast synthesis”. The 0-Coast is a single voice patchable synthesizer that can work with or without patch cables. This makes it very much at home on its own or as part of a larger modular setup. Simply plug in a MIDI controller and off you go.
Alternatively get busy with the patch cables and take a more methodical approach to your sound generation. There are 13 sources and 14 destinations on offer, all signal compatible with Eurorack modular systems.
Other features include 2 channel MIDI to CV/Gate and MIDI sync; a dual mode MIDI controlled arpeggiator; triangle core analogue VCO; Overtone and Multiply timbral animators; transistor based low pass gate dynamics.
The look of the unit is very engaging. Make Noise have a certain future/retro style which is slightly unruly. LEDs are scattered about the place, there’s no symmetry or particular logic to the layout which gives it a sense of fun uncommon in the serious world of modular synthesis. However, if you get stuck into the demonstration video (below) you’ll soon find that they mean business.
The 0-Coast single voice patchable synthesizer is available now for $499 or £430 inc VAT.
