Beyerdynamic launch flagship DT-1990 Pro Headphones
Studios across the world have used, and still use Beyerdynamic headphones on a daily basis. Amongst the various models, the DT-990’s have been favoured by musicians and producers for their pleasant high-end listening experience and reliability. It’s about time there was an update, and it appears Beyerdynamics have used the excuse to go all out with the DT-1990 Pro.
The DT-1990 Pro with DT-990 Heritage
Headphones are a very personal choice, and I have to be honest, the DT-990’s have never been for me. I find them too coloured. However, I am in a minority as they are hugely popular and I can see why. Not only they provide a recognisable listening experience, they are pleasant to listen to and comfortable to wear. Studios often opt to have them in stock because many people know them well, they are cost-effective, reliable and if they do go wrong, spare parts can be ordered.
The servicing and available spare parts is a big advantage with most Beyerdynamic headphones that other manufacturers don’t always offer. With this new pair, they are continuing this trend and adding removable cables which attach via mini-XLR’s. This also gives way to a choice of a straight or curly cable. The ear-pads are removable too, but this time they’re made from memory foam and the DT-1990’s come with two pairs. One pair is aimed at being more natural, whilst the other enhances the bass frequencies.
The really significant update here, though, is the 45mm tesla transducers. Beyerdynamic claim these are their most accurate and efficient drivers. This gives way to a frequency response of 5Hz to 40kHz and an impedance of 250 Ohms, which suits these headphones for use with professional equipment. It’s all about how they sound, of course, and I look forward to hearing a pair. Expectations are high if they are being badged as a top model by a company with this much experience.
More Information
These new headphones can be found on Beyerdynamic‘s website, and Thomann already have them listed for pre-orders where a specification can be seen. Price-wise, they are just under the 500 GBP mark which is quite a serious price for Beyerdynamic headphones now, as the DT-990‘s can still be picked up for 111.50 GBP. These are intended as a flagship model however, which Beyer very much needed. Compared to other headphone manufacturers, this is actually quite cheap for a flagship model. This is clearly a market-driven price point, which Beyerdynamic are able to facilitate. Shipping is expected in September.
