Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom Adam Jones Signature Silverburst already sold out?
Has Tool's Adam Jone's signature Silverburst Les Paul Custom already sold out?
The Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom Adam Jones Signature VOS 2020 1979 Reissue Silverburst model has been spotted out in the wild! And it appears that a lot of them have already sold. The Tool guitarist first shared the new model earlier this year on his Instagram page and it looks like it is now finally available. But it isn’t exactly cheap and looks to have sold out already!
Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom Adam Jones Signature Silverburst
This new signature model Gibson Custom Shop model is based on Tool guitarist Adam Jones’ 1979 Silverburst Les Paul Custom and is available in two formats. There is a regular version and an aged version – which is also signed by Jones – on offer. Both guitars will set you back a few thousand, however they do look really nice.
79 Aged & Signed
There are only 79 aged and signed versions available worldwide, and they’ve already started fetching £10,334.37 plus shipping on Reverb! A non-aged version sold for £7,946.15 plus shipping on Reverb. Basically, if you can find one, expect to pay a premium for this limited run in either format.
Allegedly the standard edition is limited to only 150 worldwide and sold out immediately. It’s possible we may never see them again.
Specifications
Both models are built identical to Jones’ original ’79 Les Paul Custom. That means a mahogany body with a maple cap paired to a three-piece maple neck with an ebony fretboard. They should have the same pickup configuration as well. However, at the time writing, the guitar has not been officially been listed by Gibson yet, so I cannot confirm all the exact details on hardware and pickup choices.
I know he uses ’90s Seymour Duncan Distortion pickups and likes huge frets, so my educated guess is that that’s what we will see for this model as well. But until Gibson confirms the exact details, we will have to wait and see.
In the YouTube video below, Moron Reviews has already received his pre-order and states that the guitar comes loaded with the following pickups and wiring.
- Neck Pickup: Custombucker (Mounted Backwards)
- Bridge Pickup: Custom-Wound Seymour Duncan DDJ
- Controls: 2 Volumes, 2 Tones; 1 DiMarzio 500k Volume Pot (Bridge), and 3 CTS Pots, .047uF Orange Drop Capacitors
You can see in all the photos that the model has the mirror on the headstock. The aged version is signed on the back of the headstock, with the finish on the rear of the neck heavily worn down.
Official release date? Pre-order only?
According to the Reverb listings, the official release date for the new Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom Adam Jones model is October 28, or shortly after. Hopefully, we will get some official confirmation on this new model very soon, and will update you as soon as it is available.
It does look like pre-order has already sold out worldwide to those that pre-ordered. So you might have to start looking for at the used market if you want to grab yourself this Adam Jones model.
Silverburst Custom
Adam’s Instagram page recently showed off some pics of the case and we know they will come with a C.O.A and all the usual Custom Shop goodies as well.
While we wait for an official announcement from Gibson, you can check out the unboxing video below and see if you can hunt one down somewhere. Good luck!
UPDATE – 27 October
They officially launched today and are already sold out on the Gibson main site, though I have seen a handful of dealers with limited stock showing, so you may get lucky. Mark Agnesi has posted them on his Instagram feed and it states there is a Gibson TV world premiere video at 5pm CT of Adam playing new music.
Update – We’ve added the video from Gibson with the new dam Jones signature model below.
