Blade was released in 2012 and sliced through waveform harmonics morphed on an XY Pad. With Blade-2 they’ve plugged in an Additive Mode with wave analyzer and the ability to create your own waveforms.

Blade-2

Blade always felt and sounded very different. Rob likes to pack in the parameters but Blade’s thing was the harmonics, the glassiness and liquidness of the tones and the movement brought about through the XY pad. Blade-2 modernises the interface and brings in an Additive mode which also uses the XY pad to morph and mix between 4 additive waveforms.

Harmolator and Additive Modes are similar in their use of partials but the Additive Oscillator lets you get deeper into the individual aspects of each partial to the point where you can make your own. The Harmolator comes with 96 partials whereas the Additive oscillator gives you 4 sets of 16 more complex partials that you can fully manipulate on the XY pad.

This new version also brings in an additional analogue style oscillator and a noise generator to add depth and warmth so the sound. There are now 32 different filter types. The arpeggiator section gets a big update with multiple rows and ratcheting features. At the end of the chain are 3 multi-effects processors.

The result is a unique sounding 16-voice virtual instrument that’s extremely editable and tremendously fun in live performance and manipulation.

Blade-2 is available now for €99.
