Tesseract Modular Tukra: zany looking 8-track trigger sequencer with samples and synth
Strange icons and insane hieroglyphs cover Tukra’s front panel that offers clues to the functionality of this 8-track trigger sequencer that also has a sample player and drum synth built in.
Tukra
The website describes it without much of a mention of the heavily decorated interface. Maybe it’s just for fun. What we do know is that hiding under the icons is an 8 x 8 grid of trigger buttons, 8 trigger outputs, 4 CV inputs, MIDI, Clock, Reset and a pair of audio outputs.
From the sequencing point of view you get 64 steps per pattern and 64 patterns. You get 64 parts each of which can contain a string of 64 patterns. And then you’ve got a Song which can hold up to 64 parts. For each step you get probability, gate and roll. The grid resolution can go down to 24 ppq. It has a Euclidean rhythm generator, 8 internal LFOs and a modulation matrix. There’s also a “Ramifications” tool for generating rhythms.
Probably the most unusual thing is that Tukra contains a drum synth and sample player – that’s the reason for the audio outputs and also for all the internal modulation possibilities. You’ll also find an audio mixer and a reverb, filter and bit crusher.
Are any of the icons making sense yet?
The sample player uses an internal bank of 256 samples but you can also add your own from the MicroSD card. It’s a simple device with one-shot playback but ideal for some interesting percussion sounds. It can be layered up with the Drum Synth and noise generator.
The manual is on the website and it’s quite long and involved. What they need is a nice snappy video that goes through the basics because it’s a little bit boggling at the moment.
The prototype looked very colourful:

Regardless, Tesseract Modular is ploughing ahead and opening up preorders for a very reasonable €299 or €249 for the kit version. Hopefully I video will be along soon but otherwise there are more details on the website.
