Kastle Drum: mini patchable industrial glitch machine from Bastl Instruments
Remember the Kastle pocket-sized patchable synth? Well, this is the Kastle Drum its unruly rhythm-based sibling for industrial glitchy grooves.
Kastle Drums
Wait a minute, where’s the sequencer? Drum machines are supposed to have pads and patterns and sequences right? Nope. With the Kastle Drum the rhythms are there to be discovered through the art of patching and experimentation.

The Kastle Drum is based on exactly the same hardware as the Kastle with the same synth engine but has been reworked into an algorithmic industrial glitch machine. It’s now all about dynamically charged envelopes and VC clock generators feeding stepped patterns and triangle LFO modulation.
Somewhere inside you’ll find 8 styles of drum synthesis focusing on noise and weirdness. You have control over the sound selection, decay time, pitch control, looping modes and clocks. You get 10 patch wires to start connecting things together and you can also route out to other analogue gear or take a CV or clock input for deeper integration.
I don’t think it’s supposed to be fully explained, although they do a great job in the video below, it’s supposed to be explored and enjoyed. It’s also open source so if you want to mess it about, you can.
Kastle Drum is available now for €108.90.
