At last! Epiphone’s collaboration with Jared James Nichols for a Gold Glory signature model Les Paul Custom – which we wrote about – has been officially revealed by Jared James via his social media feed. And it looks as good as we’d hoped, thanks to the stunning gold livery!
Epiphone Jared James Nichols Gold Glory
One thing that impressed me about this guitar is Jared James Nichols’ enthusiasm. It’s infectious! He comes across s one of the most likeable musicians in years, I think. So to follow him as he teased his new Epiphone Gold Glory signature guitar has been fun. Now the cat is completely out of the bag, with Nichols demoing his new signature guitar on a live Facebook stream in front of his fans, and dishing the details on the new model.
Seymour Duncan P90
This all-gold model with body binding is loaded with a single Seymour Duncan P90 pickup controlled via a single Volume and Tone control. In Nichols’ hands it’s a tonal powerhouse and sounds pretty damn fat. The gold matte finish covers the entire body and neck except for a black stinger on the rear of the headstock. The body and neck are mahogany and the ebony fretboard is loaded with 22 medium jumbo frets.
Personally, I think it looks fantastic in gold, with that Les Paul Custom binding, block inlays and a bound neck/headstock. This new Epiphone also has the updated headstock shape, elevating the look beyond those of previous shapes.
Ecstatic Jared
You can check out Jared’s Instagram and Facebook profile to see him grinning with glee over his brand new signature model. It’s a killer package. I welcome that Epiphone has dropped the ‘Blues Power’ plate behind the wrapover bridge, moving it to a more subtle position on the truss rod cover.
The neck profile is an important factor here and I expect it’s a nice fat neck with plenty of girth, just like his previous all black Old Glory.
Coming Soon
Jared has confirmed the new Gold Glory will be available in April, so not too long to wait for this glorious gold model. I’d guess the pricing will be similar, if not the same, as his previous Old Glory version in black.
Mountain
Make sure you watch Jared’s video below! He’s evidently in love with his new signature guitar and mentions that he’s working on doing some Mountain covers with a band, in honour of the late great Leslie West – sounds awesome! As if anyone can do Leslie West justice, it has to be Jared, as you can hear West’s influence throughout his playing style and phrasing.
