Fender launches vintage-spec, aged signature Telecaster for Chrissie Hynde
An affordable new signature guitar for The Pretenders leader
During this year’s slightly bizarre virtual NAMM Show, Fender launched a raft of new artist guitars. One caught our eye in particular: the Chrissie Hynde Telecaster. Made in Mexico, the new guitar is a recreation of her Ice Blue Metallic Telecaster and is available now. Let’s check out some of the vintage specs, shall we?
Fender Artist Series Chrissie Hynde Telecaster
Fender says Chrissie Hynde’s new signature Telecaster model is a faithful recreation of the Ice Blue Metallic ’65 Fender Telecaster she bought in New York City around 40 years ago and played in The Pretenders. Built in Mexico, this guitar has some nice specifications and mirrors the colour scheme of the original guitar, including that conspicuous chrome pickguard. Ms Hynde says:
My guitar tech, David Crubly, convinced me to launch a Fender Signature Telecaster by telling me it might encourage more people to get into bands and music. I hope that’s true and know that those who do, won’t look back.
Vintage Spec
The body is alder and sports a Road Worn Ice Blue Metallic finish. The maple neck has a mid-’60s C-shaped profile and a vintage style 7.25″-radius rosewood fingerboard. On the pickups side, you get a pair of vintage-output ’50s Tele single coils which have been voiced to match the set that from Chrissie’s original ’65 Tele.
Aged
Other features include Road Worn hardware, including the chrome pickguard and vintage-style locking tuners. Overall, the guitar is a nice-looking take on a Telecaster. I’m sure many players will enjoy the vintage specifications here, especially if – like me – you enjoy a vintage fingerboard radius.

Ridiculous! A mere Mexico made Fender Tele for the same price as a USA made Tele. Good luck selling THAT!! Haaaaaaaa!!!
