This new Epiphone Brendon Small Ghost Horse Explorer is brutal!
A 24-fret Explorer with a Floyd Rose
We first saw the new Epiphone Brendon Small Ghost Horse Explorer teased way back at the tail end of 2019, but now it looks like the model is finally about to get an official release at last. Let’s dive in and take a closer look at this very untraditional Explorer.
Epiphone Brendon Small Ghost Horse Explorer
With a 24 fret neck and a Floyd Rose locking trem system, the Epiphone Brendon Small Ghost Horse Explorer is a little different from a regular Explorer. The guitar first appeared way back on Small’s Twitter feed in November 2019, and of course, grabbed a lot of fans’ attention. It then later featured in an Andertons video filmed during the Winter NAMM Show 2020 and more recently turned up in the new official Epiphone video with Premier Guitar.
Brendon Small, Metalocalypse and Dethlok
For those unfamiliar with Brendan Small, he is guitarist and creator of the fictional Metalocalypse/Dethlok and Galaktikon series. He has already had two signature models out, the Snow Falcon and Thunderhorse, and fans have been eagerly waiting for this new version.
Galaktikon Burst!
As mentioned above, the guitar features 24 frets and a Floyd Rose FRT-1000 tremolo system. Other distinctive features are the sculpted heel joint, for better upper fret access, and a bound body and neck. On the 12th fret is an inlay of Galaktikon’s protagonist, Triton’s spaceship.
The body is made of mahogany with a AAA-maple veneer in a glossy Galaktikon Burst finish. The back, on the other hand is a satin black finish. As with the previous Epiphone Brendon Small models, this one will also come with Gibson USA Burstbucker 1 and Burstbucker 2 pickups, and an Epilite gig-bag.
Apparently the new model will cost USD 799 and should be out soon, although it doesn’t seem to be listed with any dealers yet, and isn’t up on the Epiphone website. Hopefully, we should see some official specifications on this new model turning up on Epiphone’s main site sometime soon. You can check out the video with Premier Guitar and Andertons for more information below.

One response to “This new Epiphone Brendon Small Ghost Horse Explorer is brutal!”
I hate the finish on this, but if this was a matte colour – black, white, darker blues – or natural wood finish, I’d be all in. Brendon doesn’t suffer unplayable guitars. 🤘🏻
