D’Addario Eclipse: (Yet) another clip-on tuner for guitarists
Available in a rainbow of colours, this new 'cheap' tuner could be a hit.
D’Addario has slated the release of its new Eclipse Tuner for the 1st September. This cheap and cheerful guitar tuning product will be available in multiple colours and is aimed squarely at the entry-level market.
Rainbow
The Eclipse tuner is a clip-on-the-headstock-style mini tuner and comes in either black, yellow, blue, red, purple or green. The tuner can handle bass or guitar (and probably any string instrument from a ukelele to a violin), and allows you fast, accurate tuning, says D’Addario.
The tuner will run from a single watch-style flat battery and has a built-in auto off feature, which should help prolong its battery life. With a full-colour LED display, the Eclipse is probably easy to see on stage or at home. The display can also swivel so that you can get a good angle on the readout when it’s clipped on to your guitar’s headstock.
Crowded
The marketplace for clip on is practically swamped with mini tuners, clip-on tuners and super accurate, mini-clip-on tuners. I really don’t see what D’Addario can add to this arena personally. If it is really cheap then it could be a winner, but other than that I can see no added benefits over what is already out there at the moment.
D’Addario state
Affordable no longer means compromise with the Eclipse Tuner — the modestly-priced product offers superior tuning with unparalleled performance
We will have to wait and see if that statement holds up and also what price it comes in at. Fingers crossed it will be worth the wait and come in at substantially below the £20 threshold to make them worth buying. I’d like to see them as close to £10 – £12 as possible to be worth a punt.
