Reverend Greg Koch Gristlemaster 90 with Bigsby
New Reverend Greg Koch Gristlemaster with P90s
Reverend has cooked up an attractive new variant of its Greg Koch Gristlemaster guitar, adding a set of Fishman P-90s and a Bigsby vibrato to the mix. The result is a sweet-looking guitar with lots of variability and a decent price tag that gives the old T-style formula a new spin.
Reverend Greg Koch Gristlemaster 90
This latest incarnation of Greg Koch’s signature model for Reverend Guitars deviates from the previous design in both the pickup and bridge departments. The Gristlemaster 90 has a set of Fishman P-90 pickups designed in collaboration with Reverend Founder Joe Naylor. They’re voiced with a Fishman midrange boost and are wired to Volume and Tone controls as well as a three-way selector. There’s a push-pull phase switch on the Tone control, too, so it looks like Reverend is trying to offer a diverse set of tones from one guitar.
The other significant change is the Bigsby B50 tremolo system that uses one of Reverend’s ‘soft touch’ springs. It comes with a roller bridge and be super-smooth to play.
New Colours
The rest of the specification follows the blueprint of the regular model. The chambered body is made from korina, paired with a three-piece korina neck and an ebony fingerboard with a 12″ radius. The Gristlemaster 90 version will be available in three nice-looking finishes: Midnight Black, Venetian Gold and Bradford Beach Blue. I’m impressed with the colour choices here. The aesthetics benefit from removing the pickup surround on the front pickup, too. I think this version looks even nicer than the T-style single-coil version.
Set Neck
Reverend has included some nice little details, like a boneite nut, Reverend’s pin lock tuners and a dual-action truss rod. Overall, the specifications look spot-on. I think it could prove popular with players looking for that P90 tone. As a set-neck guitar using a slightly oversized Tele-style Gristlemaster body shape to accommodate Gregg’s big frame, I think it benefits a lot from this new configuration. If you like P90s, this could be one to check out.

If I didn’t already have the Club King 290 (which is an AMAZING guitar) I’d be all over this. Just one word of advice, replace the licensed bigsby with a real bigsby.
how bout just deleting the Bigsby
