Apple leak: New MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″, and a Mac Pro with 40 cores
Bloomberg has quoted well-known Apple leaker Mark Gurman, revealing “news” from the headquarters in Cupertino. Allegedly, the manufacturer is working on the release of hotly anticipated MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ versions. These will, of course, have even faster processor configurations as well as more ports. In addition, he speculates about the next Mac Pro generation, which looks likely to provide groundbreaking processing speeds.
Apple MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ coming later this year
After the presentation of the new “small” and colourful iMac series equipped with new Apple M1 processors, the product launches look set to continue at a brisk pace. Now it’s the turn of the expected 16″ MacBook Pro. According to leaker Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a 14″ MacBook Pro. If the rumours are to be believed, this will have more ports in addition to a processor update. Finally, the MagSafe power connector beloved by many users is coming back. Maybe we’ll see colourful versions here too…
In addition, Apple looks set to dial back the “less-is-more mentality”, adding more Thunderbolt 4 ports as well as an HDMI output – the latter input looks very interesting for videocasting – and an SD card slot. The new 10-core processors are codenamed Jade C-Chop and Jade-C Die (eight cores for high performance and two for efficiency). There are also new graphics options with 16 and 32 cores. The leaker thinks that the upcoming Mac mini will get an upgrade, too: The CPUs will manage 64 gigabytes of RAM and a larger number of external connected Thunderbolt devices, he says.
Bloomberg also believes that a more powerful Mac Mini is in the offing, codenamed J374, with the same chip as the next MacBook Pro. Apple’s M1 Mac Mini has been popular with musicians and producers, and a new souped up version could feature have an even broader appeal with creatives, if the price is right.
Mac Pro gets fast
In addition, Mark Gurman has apparently learned that there will be two new processors for the Mac Pro. Codenamed Jade 2C-Die and Jade 4C-Die, they’re equipped with 40 cores (32 high performance and eight efficiency). Graphics options include either 64 or 128 cores. That smells like a lot of power. The design of the computer is said to resemble the AirPort Extreme hardware. However, the upcoming Mac Pro is not due to be released until 2022.
As usual with leaks of this sort, a little bit of caution is advised – we can’t guarantee that any of this factually accurate. But it does seem to point to some interesting developments on the horizon at Apple.

Mac mini “pro” probably the route I will take. Do not need another super expensive laptop to just sit there on a stand.
Won’t buy it. The price for them will probably be a down payment on a car or house just for a laptop.
I’m a filmmaker and need a larger laptop to travel with. I still use my original 17 in MacBook Pro and buy refurbished ones because your newer laptops are like toys. Please make useful computers or allow other companies to use your OS. I don’t care about colors.
