AbleTunes FX MATE: An all-in-one FX plug-in operated by single knobs
Who said multi-effect plug-ins have to be complicated? AbleTunes has come up with quite possibly the simplest fully-featured FX suite you can buy for USD 50 – FX MATE.
The plug-in contains compression, distortion, reverb, delay stereo width, and low/mid frequency boost effects, all operated by single dedicated knobs. Save for an AI doing all the work for you, which might very well become a reality in due time, applying the aforementioned effects – sometimes notoriously complex – can’t possibly get any easier than this.
FX Mate’s entire layout is pretty much just a panel with a bunch of knobs. Here’s what each one does, according to the information from AbleTunes:
Punch – mapped to several of the stereo compressor’s parameters to enhance transients and add punch.
Drive – as expected, this one manipulates stereo distortion, adding anything from subtle saturation to an all-out distorted mess.
Bass Boost – low frequency increase for expanding bass-heavy instruments like kick drums.
Bright – mid-high frequency boost to achieve additional clarity and presence
Reverb – controls several of the stereo reverb’s parameters, allowing anything from subtle ambience to long-ish reverb tails.
Stereo – manipulates stereo width
Space – mapped to another set of stereo reverb parameters, this knob engages a small space reverb.
Delay – short feedback delay for adding depth and space. Works in mono and stereo mode.
Overall, non too shabby, indeed! If you need a quick fix of any of the aforementioned effects, FX MATE might as well become a friend of yours. Those seeking some more elaborate mechanisms to sink their teeth into, though, ought to be looking elsewhere. There’s a demo version to let you check out the overall sound quality on offer here. FX MATE is available in 32- and 64-bit versions for both AU and VST.
