Aeolian Meditation: a complex addictive additive synthesizer playground
Ocean Swift has released a VST Instrument with a bit of an ethereal vibe. Aeolian Meditation is described as capable of generating unique and beautiful melodies, meditative and hypnotic drones, cinematic and musical soundscapes. It’s inspired by ancient Greek instruments of nature and sounds like it could be the perfect accompaniment to your Yoga or Tai Chi class.
Aeolian Meditation
It’s an additive synthesizer that uses a mix of 12 harmonic overtones and 4 noise colours to formulate the sound. The large modulation system keeps these tones alive, in movement and constantly evolving. It has an FM source with dedicated depth knob and modulators that can mess about with the frequency and intensity. You can play Aeolian Meditation as a monophonic synthesizer but perhaps its forte is as a generator of drones. Choose a root note and then bring in harmonics, colours, tones and start them on long evolving journeys of modulation. At the end of the synth we find the obligatory effects section with all the usual chorus, reverb and delay type effects.
Aeolian Meditation has a dedicated Android app that lets you control the synthesizer remotely via OSC. You get access to every parameter and a bunch of XY pads and randomisers. Not sure why they can’t form part of the VST instrument.
There are a couple of in-depth videos into the inner workings of the synth, but also check out these SoundCloud demos for a good indication of the sorts of sounds it can generate. Sounds pretty impressive to me.
