End of 2024 Danish headphone company AIAIAI has announced the TMA-2 DJ Wireless, the latest in its DJ series of headphones and what it’s calling the “world’s first wireless DJ headphones.” Now they are available.

Whereas most wireless headphones transmit audio via Bluetooth, which is latency-prone, the AIAIAI TMA-2 DJ Wireless use W+ Link, a proprietary system for “ultra-low latency,” according to the company. AIAIAI is claiming latency of less than 10ms as compared to 250ms for Bluetooth. This is the same technology that’s in the company’s TMA-2 Studio Wireless+ headphones and Unit-4 monitors. To use the headphones, plug the X03 W+ Link transmitter into the headphone jack on the mixer.

You can also switch to Bluetooth for regular listening or other situations when low latency is not required.

Review

I had the chance to review the AIAIAI TMA-2 DJ Wireless Headphones (thanks to AIAIAI!). And first of all, I have to say that despite my concerns about latency, I am absolutely thrilled with these new headphones. The latency is not noticeable at all, the headphones fit perfectly, block out ambient noise very well and sound very powerful. Working with the new DJ tool is really fun!

It is only at these high volumes that you notice a difference compared to my Sennheiser HD-25s, which can really take it. The AIAIAIs tend to distort a bit at high levels. But I think in a club you rarely check and mix tracks at that volume.

Battery Life and Durability

AIAIAI TMA-2 DJ Wireless headphones are of course battery powered, with a promised 25 hours of battery life per charge.

At 217g, the headphones are lightweight yet durable, twisting to fit on the DJ’s neck and around their head.

As with other AIAIAI cans, the TMA-2 DJ Wireless headphones are modular, allowing for customization, upgrades and parts replacement.

Sound Quality

AIAIAI has engineered the new headphones with a 40mm bio-cellulose diaphragm and tuned them to present bass and treble details in loud venues. There’s an app EQ to fine-tune the response curve as well.

Price and Availability

Do you really need wireless headphones in the DJ booth? That depends on how active of a DJ you are. I myself was known for dancing behind the decks and I don’t know how many times I stepped on the cord, snapping the headphones off my face. If I had had wireless cans, that would not have been a problem. The test proved that the new headphones really do mix well and perfectly wirelessly, even without a sync button. Great!

The AIAIAI TMA-2 DJ Wireless Headphones are now available here at Thomann* for $275.00 / £258.00 / 299.00€. They will be shipped within the next few days.

Bluetooth 6 gives you the same without a dongle and with any good sounding wireless headphones.

Someone clearly has no clue what “zero latency” is.
10ms is a lot, if you combine it with other AD/DA conversion + whatever else is going on. It’s all going to add up fast..
