Analogue Solutions Ample – The greatest AS synth ever?
Analogue Solutions Ample, the latest monosynth from the UK synth makers, combines some of the best features from recent instruments into one ample package.
Analogue Solutions Ample
British boutique synthesizer company Analogue Solutions today announced Ample, a desktop monophonic analogue synthesizer that combines a number of features from their storied instruments into one tantalizing whole.
Coming across like a greatest hits package, it includes the sound elements of Fusebox, the jack patch points of Concussor Eurorack, the patch pin matrix of Vostok, the BBD echo from Dr Strangelove and the sequencer and CV touch pads of Generator. “It shares all this yet still has its own sound!” claimed Analogue Solutions in a Facebook post announcing the synth.
Intrigued? I sure as hell am.
Ample Synthesis Parameters
Living up to its name, Ample appears to be a very well-proportioned synth. It has three analogue oscillators each with a variety of modulation choices. There’s a single, dedicated LFO with a triangle wave output plus you can also use VCO3 as an LFO with saw, triangle and square wave options. For filtering, there’s a four-pole, 24dB/octave low pass filter. Next, there are two envelopes (or EGs, as Analogue Solutions calls them) with traditional ADSR settings.
There’s quite a bit more involved as well, with a 16-step Patternator sequencer, touch panel Interval Generator, BBD analogue delay, VCS3-style pin matrix for internal routing and two patch socket sections for audio and control interfacing. There’s MIDI as well. You can even use Ample as an effects processor.
“We have given this synth a large and diverse number of controls,” said AS, “that alongside the patch sockets will give even the best and most experienced synthesist endless possibilities.”
Pure Analogue Signal Path
Analogue Solutions is known for its analogue purity and Ample is no exception. “Aside from the MIDI chip (which has to be digital), everything else is totally analogue using real transistors and op-amps,” they said. “There are no CPU-stabilised and quantised circuits, no DCOs, no digital LFOs and no digital EGs as found on other so-called analogue synths.” Shots fired!
Jokes aside, Ample sounds incredible in Starsky Carr’s promo video (see below). Analogue Solutions has more than 25 years in the industry so it knows a thing or two about analogue synthesis. Interestingly, Ample’s pedigree goes back even further. “The circuitry is based on designs dating back to the mid-1970s,” the company said in the post. “So Ample has a genuine old sound.”
Availability
Ample is currently available for immediate shipping in a very limited run on the Analogue Solutions website for £1999. At the time of publication, there were only nine units left. However, the company is promising a wider release “coming to selected dealers soon.”
