Antares Auto-Tune Slice: Turn any vocal into an instrument
Antares has released Auto-Tune Slice, a new vocal sampler/synthesizer instrument based on Auto-Tune technology. Auto-Tune Slice lets you slice up vocals and other audio tracks and turn them into unique sampled instruments on the fly.
Antares Auto-Tune Slice
Sadly, Antares’ latest plug-in is only available as part of the Auto-Tune Unlimited subscription. That’s a pity, because Auto-Tune Slice looks like a very nifty vocal sampler that would be a worthwhile addition to any plug-in folder, even if you don’t use Auto-Tune. Imagine creating chords, melodies or even entire backing tracks out of vocal bits – the creative possibilities are vast.
Auto-Tune Slice turns samples into slices, which are automatically mapped to your MIDI controller. Antares says that the plug-in uses an advanced transient detection algorithm for accurate slicing. This lets you turn any vocal track (or small parts of it, to be precise) into a playable instrument. You can rearrange slices, create phrases and patterns, and manipulate the sounds using the 14 included effects. Needless to say, Auto-Tune Slice also includes Auto-Tune functionality for tuning samples automatically.
In case you don’t sing yourself or need some inspiration, Auto-Tune Slice comes with 200 vocal samples and presets from a wide range of styles. Some of these were made by artists and producers Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner. Antares also plans to release new sample content regularly to all subscribers to Auto-Tune Slice; they call this program “Samplescape”.
Cutting up vocals and turning them into instruments is fun and inspiring, so it’s great that Antares has made a dedicated tool for it. It really is too bad that you need to subscribe to the full Auto-Tune Unlimited suite to get your hands on it.
Price and compatibility
Antares Auto-Tune Slice is only available as part of Auto-Tune Unlimited. The subscription costs USD 24.99/month with a two-month minimum commitment, or USD 18.74/month with an annual commitment. You can also get the annual subscription from Thomann.de* for €222. A free 14-day demo version is available, so you can try before you subscribe.
The plug-in runs on macOS 10.14 or higher and Windows 10 or higher in VST3, AU and AAX formats (64 bit only).
