The API ASM164 is a flexible dual-bus 16-channel analogue summing mixer inspired by “THE BOX” console, with insert points on every channel.
As an audio manufacturer, API is undoubtedly one of the pioneers of analogue hardware with a wide range of products that have set the standard for recording and signal processing.
API ASM164
The ASM164 has been modelled on the summing section from API’s popular “THE BOX” consoles. With 16 high headroom channels and two busses to assign them to, you can route tracks from your DAW into the ASM164 and impart some of that analogue warmth that API is known for.
Besides the straightforward control panel, the strength of the ASM164 is the number of channel inserts it has. On the rear panel, the input section is divided into two sets of 8 channels with D-Sub connector ports, as well as the corresponding two sets of 8 insert send and returns for each input.
In addition, there are insert sends and returns for both of the sub-mix busses. This opens up the possibilities for processing your channel groups depending on the type of project you’re working with. For instance, you can set up a bus specifically for processing vocals, or you could get more technical and use the busses to separate your kick and bass from the rest of the mix.
What’s more there is even a set of external inputs which are assignable to either one of the busses. Overall, the ASM164 gives you great flexibility for creating a high-end summing and routing system with a patchbay, and getting the most out of your outboard gear.
