Apogee has updated the control software for the Ensemble Thunderbolt audio interface in what could amount to quite the revamp. Replacing the Maestro 2 app, the new Apogee Control software has a customizable GUI, multi-unit support and compatibility with the Apogee Control iOS app and Apogee Control hardware remote. And there’s good news for Logic X users, too…

The new Ensemble Thunderbolt software also comes with a firmware update that makes the interface compatible with Logic Pro X‘s new Direct Monitoring feature that eliminates – or greatly reduces – recording latency. The real-time FX Send feature lets you use your DAW’s reverb and other effects with Apogee Control’s mixer. Following the update, you will also be able to connect two Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt interfaces to a Mac, doubling the quantity of available analog inputs and outputs.

Additionally, any Apogee Element interface can be connected to the Ensemble Thunderbolt to expand your system.  Apogee’s Element interfaces feature the same technology as the flagship Symphony and Ensemble series, delivered in a streamlined form factor that eschews the OLED display and front panel controls. With their no-frills build and proven Apogee technology, the Element interfaces will serve as ideal expanders for the Ensemble.

The Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt features 8 Advanced Stepped Gain mic preamps, monitor controller functionality with talkback via the built-in mic, front panel instrument inputs and outputs, two headphone outputs, and assorted digital connectivity. The interface is sold for 2495 USD | 2699 EUR | 2,412.27 GBP. It makes for a more affordable alternative to Antelope Audio’s premium interfaces.

Though if you want more analog inputs (10) and outputs (16) for your needs, you are going to have to invest in additional Apogee gear, like the Elements interfaces or a second Ensemble Thunderbolt. This could drive the price up and above Antelope Audio‘s traditionally hefty, but in-the-norm prices. That’s not to say you aren’t getting a great deal either way, for Apogee’s preamps and conversion are proven and work fantastic.

All Ensemble Thunderbolt users on macOS 10.10 or higher can download the Ensemble Thunderbolt software update from Apogee’s website for free.
