Apple Mac mini M4: Small, powerful, and a power button on the bottom?
Mac mini M4 with up to 64GB of RAM and the M4 chip
Apple unveiled the Mac mini M4 this afternoon. Once again, it sets new standards in the compact desktop segment and comes with impressive innovations. Now the small computer, which was leaked today, is officially presented with all specifications. There are two models, the M4 and the M4 Pro. The M4 Pro offers up to 14 CPU cores, a 16-core neural engine and 20 GPU cores, which is a significant upgrade for performance-hungry applications.
According to the leak of this morning, the Mac mini M4’s storage options are also versatile: with a maximum RAM capacity of 64GB and up to 8TB of SSD storage, it is well equipped for demanding workflows. Orders are being taken now, and the tiny computer will begin shipping on November 8.
Mac mini M4: Small, Powerful and Versatile
The new Mac mini M4 features a compact enclosure that is about the same size as an Apple TV but has a design similar to the Mac Studio. The front panel features two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack for easy access to peripherals. On the back, you’ll find three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the smaller model and three TB 5 ports on the larger model, an HDMI port, and a Gigabit Ethernet port. Like the current model, the new Mac mini M4 will only be available in silver, with no color options, which may be a bit of a disappointment for some who like more color.
Of course, the new processor also supports Apple Intelligence, so the new Mac mini M4 integrates seamlessly into the existing ecosystem. The new M4 chip has been optimized for greater efficiency and significantly improved AI processing, which will be especially noticeable in machine learning and image processing applications. This is especially valuable for applications that rely on real-time processing and precision.
The new Mac mini M4: Power for every workspace
In terms of performance, the M4 chip offers significant performance gains over the M1 model. Apple promises up to 1.7x faster performance for everyday tasks and up to 2.1x faster acceleration for computationally intensive applications. Especially when compared to older models, the new M4 chip will noticeably increase the speed and efficiency of the system, resulting in significant time savings for both everyday users and creative workflows.
In addition to its performance and storage advantages, the new Mac mini M4 has also been improved in terms of connectivity and usability. With two USB-C ports on the front (which could also be Thunderbolt 4 ports) and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, the new Mac mini M4 is ready for today’s needs and work environments.
But why did Apple put the power button on the bottom of the computer? Still, the entry-level base model comes with at least 16GB of RAM and the 8-core M4 chip. Additional models with a 10-core CPU and GPU, as well as larger SSD options, give users even more customization options to suit their individual needs. After the iMac M4 and the MacBook Pro M4 (which will surely be unveiled on Wednesday afternoon), this is the next announcement in Apple’s October News Week.
Pricing for the Apple Mac mini M4
Pricing starts at $599.00/€699.00 for the smallest model and goes up to $4,699.00/€5444.00 for the fully-featured model.

One response to “Apple Mac mini M4: Small, powerful, and a power button on the bottom?”
I’m guessing the reason they have put the power button underneath is because there will be a way of mounting it into a caddy on the back of a monitor with bottom facing outwards.
