Arturia has announced two new devices for its AudioFuse lineup: the AudioFuse X8 IN and OUT ADAT expanders. Together, these take the place of the 8Pre

Like the 8Pre, the IN and OUT models together offer ADAT expansion of eight ins and eight outs. However, unlike the 8Pre, they don’t have any microphone inputs, just instrument line-level jacks.

Arturia AudioFuse X8 IN

The AudioFuse X8 IN offers eight line-level analog inputs for synthesizers and drum machines. There’s also a single HiZ switch for guitars. There’s a pad button on the front for lowering hot signals, plus a link for making stereo pairs.

Additionally, the front has a dedicated Clock button with 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96kHz sample rates available. There’s also Word Clock input plus a Sync button to synchronize devices digitally. It also features a VU meter readout for visual monitoring.

Arturia AudioFuse X8 OUT

The companion Arturia AudioFuse X8 OUT box sports eight line-level DC-coupled analog outputs for sending to additional monitors and external hardware effects. As with the IN, it has Word Clock input for sample-aligned digital to analog conversion, plus a front panel Sync button to choose between Word, ADAT and high-quality ADAT SMUX options.

Arturia AudioFuse X8 IN and OUT: Shared Functionality

Both the IN and OUT models feature dual ADAT connectivity, allowing you to use all eight channels in ADAT SMUX mode for higher-quality digital/audio conversion.

They also both feature ADAT plug-and-play functionality and will work with any ADAT-capable audio interface, not just the Arturia AudioFuse series.

The two are half-rack size and can be mounted together in a single, 1U 19-inch rack space.

Arturia AudioFuse X8 IN and OUT: Thoughts and Price

The Arturia AudioFuse X8 IN and OUT make a lot of sense for electronic musicians and other producers who don’t do a lot of recording. I for one don’t have need for a lot of microphone inputs, although having extra line-level ins and outs would be incredibly convenient.

The Arturia AudioFuse X8 IN and OUT are also very competitively priced. The AudioFuse X8 IN is €339 and the OUT is €289. They’re available now and include the AudioFuse Creative Suite, a selection of effects from the Arturia FX Collection plus Analog Lab Intro.

I was excited about this until seeing the price. You can get a new Scarlett 18i20 with 8 ins and outs for less than this and a used or B-stock.

All that said, that is the list vs the market price and the dedicated nature is nice along with the word clock input.

This isn’t as dense, but it could also be good for people considering things like the ferrofish 16.

the fact it’s compact makes it a good companion for an ultalite/RME, and portable. A scarlett is 500 btw; so the idea is to only need the in our the outs.
